Yellow Allamanda, Allamanda cathartica

Go to - Landscape Trees
Landscape Shrubs

Family - Apocynaceae

Also called Brownbud Allamanda, Yellow trumpet or Golden trumpet, this twining climbing vine can be pruned and trained to grow as a shrub.

All parts of this plant are poisonous. Several cultivars have been developed, including a purple flowered variety. Leaves are shiny, dark green to yellowish-green up to 8 inches long and are arranged in whorls.

Flower - Bright yellow trumpet shaped flowers up to 5 inches across are produced year round.

Culture - Zones 9-11, can be grown as an annual in colder areas where frost or freeze occurs.

Allamanda grows and flowers best in full sun & is fairly drought tolerant, requiring moderate amounts of moisture. May develop chlorosis (yellowing of the leaves) in alkaline soils, otherwise Allamanda is not particularly fussy about soil requirements and has no major pests.
