Ixora spp.

Family - Rubiaceae

Ixora are acid loving plants and suffer from chlorosis, with yellowing of the leaves and overall decline if planted in alkaline soils.

To remedy this when planting Ixora make sure to test your soils pH and adjust with sulfur if necessary, adding organic material to the soil also helps to lower pH.

Ixora and other acid loving plants benefit from the use of acidic fertilizers that contain manganese and chelated iron.

Aphids, scale and the sooty mold resulting from these insect pests presence can be treated with oil sprays but it may take a month or more of treatments to see results.

Ixora grows best in full sun but will take light or partial shade in USDA zones 9 - 11. Light frost or freeze will kill Ixora to the ground, it will usually re-sprout from the roots in the spring. Propagation is by tip and semi hard cuttings. Ixora comes in many varieties with flowers of yellows, reds and pinks.
