Ti plant, Cordyline terminalis

Go to - Landscape Trees
Landscape Shrubs

Family - Agavaceae

Also called Red Cordyline, this colorful tropical plant is common in USDA Zones 10 & 11 landscapes. Used as an accent or in groups, Ti plants also can be grown in containers.

Growing up to 10 feet tall under ideal conditions the Ti plant likes rich soil and will grow in full sun or shade, although the colors are more vivid when grown in full sun.

Not very drought tolerant, Ti plants should be watered during dry conditions to avoid leaf drop. Leaf size is variable from 5 or 6 inches to over 15 inches in length and colors range from red through pink.

Yellow flowers in the spring are followed by bright red berries about 3/8 inch in diameter.

Cordyline can be propagated by stem cuttings laid horizontal, covered with soil & kept moist in a shaded area.
